Finding Calm in the Chaos: My Take on Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness and meditation are no new concepts. I know first-hand what it's like to navigate between the chaotic world of business and family commitments, while trying to carve out some "me time." But I laugh at the thoughts of sitting still on the floor or doing a 30 minute yoga session everyday (in fact, I can't even handle a 20 minute session)....my brain just won't stop!

So, picture this: I'm sitting at home holding a warm cup of coffee in my hands. The rich aroma fills the air and I take a moment to savour each sip. Gentle instrumental music is on in the background, and I light my favourite candle from Tahanan Story. I may be flicking through a Breathe magazine, or writing inspired thoughts on my Remarkable notepad.

Meditation, the Kumorebi Way

I realise that I am not that bad at meditation after all. For me, meditation is about finding joy in the little things, like feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin or doing some light reading. Sometimes, it's the soft pop music on Spotify, and other times, it's picking up a the brush and doing some art. The key is true enjoyment, and that may be different for everyone.

I've recently come across a beautiful Japanese concept called Kumorebi. Imagine a forest bathed in sunlight, the rays gently passing through the leaves and creating a stunning play of light and shadow. That's Kumorebi. It's a celebration of those small moments of joy that we often overlook in our busy lives. And this is exactly what my new found form of meditation is all about.

If you're like me, constantly wrestling with a mind that never wants to slow down, it's time to embrace a different approach to mindfulness. Let's really understand what sparks joy in us, and truly embrace these little moments of enjoyment.

Find time to do some of those activities that bring you joy, whether it's taking a walk in nature, curling up with a good book, watching your young children playing and having silly arguments with each other or simply savouring a good coffee or tea. These are your moments of meditation, and they are just as valuable.

Final Thoughts

Remember, meditation is not just about finding peace in a quiet room or on a yoga mat. It can be about finding peace and connection in the everyday moments that make up our lives. So look within your current day-to-day and try to find those little moments of happiness. And may your business journey be filled with not just success, but also personal growth and a deep sense of fulfilment. You've got this!
